Artemisia Geyser in the backcountry of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, is very deep, very pure, and very hot water. The high temperature of the pool does not allow much orange thermophile bacteria to colonize along its walls, so that the strong blue color of the water is quite striking. It is a rare and unpredictable geyser at best, but The Wild Images Team has photographed several of its eruptions. One evening at sunset, while the geyser was not erupting and the pool was calm, we captured this image of orange illuminated steam over the blue pool.
