The Aquila Fire in Anthem, Arizona is the fourth fire to hit this immediate area in the last month after the East Desert Fire followed by the Ocotillo Fire in Cave Creek, and then the Central Fire in New River which is currently still burning but is well contained. Once again, we have to give our thanks to the quick response by all first responders involved in battling these wildfires which have become far too common here recently! The Aquila Fire in Anthem, Arizona only burned for a couple of hours. But due to plentiful dry desert vegetation throughout the region, columns of smoke rose very high into the air as the fire ignited structures, blotting out light from the sun and giving it a reddening effect. Unlike the nearby Central Fire in New River, Arizona, which burned away from houses and structures, the Aquila Fire in Anthem was carried by winds directly into neighborhoods with many houses. Black smoke filled the air as structures were ignited and burned down. Quick action by fire crews kept the damage to a few secondary structures and just one house. While the nearby Central Fire continues to burn, the Aquila Fire in Anthem, Arizona ignited today in the afternoon on a ridge above a neighborhood full of houses. Winds carried the flames quickly through the area and at least one house was burned down along with a few secondary structures. The air fire crews arrived quickly and began to battle yet another local wildfire. The Bush Fire has burned about 190,000 acres now, making it the fifth largest wildfire in the history of Arizona. Two nights ago it flared up into giant flames which lit up the shelf of smoke above. However, fire crews have since really started to contain it in. The northward advancement was halted, and by the next night after this it was reduced to just a couple of spot fires. Barring a drastic change in conditions, it should be completely extinguished within the next few days. Hopefully! The Bush Fire in Arizona has been burning for the last couple of weeks, starting from the Superstition Mountains and working its way northward into the Mazatzal Mountains. While the silhouettes of the saguaros and teddy bear chollas seem to be nearly caught in the flames, the fire is actually a few miles behind with the Verde River Valley in between, so they are not in any danger. Due to high winds that day, the Ocotillo Fire spread very rapidly before fire crews even had a chance to respond and unfortunately eight homes were caught in the flames. However, due to the quick action of the fire crews, hundreds of other homes in Cave Creek, Arizona were saved from the same demise. Here a front door is all that remains of the original structure after the fire tore through it. We have seen our share of fires here this year, let’s hope this was the last!
